Are reverses on over interference?
Christopher Green
In standard methods, the popular agreement is that opener’s reverse still shows extra strength, although not necessarily 16 or more high-card points. Responder’s 2/1 response has not committed the partnership to game, but when opener reverses, the partnership must have enough combined strength to go for game.
How many points does a reverse show in bridge?
16 points
Depending on the bidding system, a reverse by opener usually shows a minimum of 16 points or a five-loser hand and at least five cards in the first bid suit.
What is the two bridge rule?
The rule is also used with suit contracts. Provided you have at least six starting points, you should interfere over 1NT in the direct seat if the number of cards in your two longest suits minus the number of losers in your hand is two or more.
What happens if you make a 2 over 1 response?
Even if you’ve made a 2-over-1 response, your auction can end at 4C or 4D if that’s your agreed suit. A 2-over-1 response is just oneof the ways you can show game values. You do nothave to make a 2-over-1 with all game-forcing hands. Playing the 2-over-1 system does not affect the meanings of other auctions.
Can you have more than 2 reverses on a bridge?
There is no need to make such a bid, because 2 shows up to 20 — you can’t have more than 20.) All reverse s should show unbalanced hands. With balanced hands, the opening is 1NT or 2NT, or the rebid is 1NT or 2NT.
Can a reverse S be a game forcing?
However, reverse s are not forcing to game. Opener’s jumpshift (a different topic), is game forcing. Contrast these two auctions: On the first auction, opener (who jumped and changed suit) has to have 19+ — his jump-shift is natural and game forcing.
What does reverse S mean on a bridge?
All reverse s should show unbalanced hands. With balanced hands, the opening is 1NT or 2NT, or the rebid is 1NT or 2NT. Reverses show that the first-bid suit is longer than the suit reverse d into. So, 1 -1 -2 would show not only 16/17+, but would indicate 5+ and 4.
