When attacking with a weapon, you add your ability modifier—the same modifier used for the Attack roll—to the damage. A spell tells you which dice to roll for damage and whether to add any modifiers.
Does a reaction happen before damage 5e?
A reaction is an instant response to a trigger of some kind, which can occur on your turn or someone else’s. As being hit, and taking damage are separate triggerable events (the shield spell trigger happens after being hit, but before damage happens as an example), they cannot be simultaneous.
Do you add strength modifier to Damage?
For most attacks, you add your ability modifier directly to the damage. There are some exceptions, like how an offhand attack doesn’t get this bonus. An ability’s modifier is usually the part of the ability that is used for attack rolls, defenses, skill checks and other features of your character. Ability modifiers start at +0 at an ability score of 10, and go up by 1 with every 2 points increase in the ability.
Can you use a bonus action and a reaction?
Yes, bonus actions and reactions are both types of actions (the rules are poorly written in a lot of areas). And no, you can’t do anything that normally takes a bonus action or reaction as an action.
Do you add proficiency to hit?
While the bonus can be added to attacks, saves, and ability checks, it cannot be added to damage or healing throws. A character’s proficiency in a skill only increases in their odds of succeeding in the attempt. It does not add to the damage done in an attack or to the amount of HP restored when healing.
How do you calculate an ability modifier?
To determine an ability modifier without consulting the table, subtract 10 from the ability score and then divide the total by 2 (round down). Because ability modifiers affect almost every Attack roll, ability check, and saving throw, ability modifiers come up in play more often than their associated scores.
How does the damage modifier work in League of Legends?
The final value from the attack or ability is increased or decreased by the modifier and then directly applied to the target’s health. Armor and magic resistance damage reduction percentage count as one source of damage received modifier against physical and magical damage respectively.

What happens when you do combat damage in RuneScape?
